Magna and Chamber short listed for Corporate Event of the Year
19th February 2009Magna and Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber have been shortlisted for Corporate Event of the Year in the prestigious Yorkshire Business Insider Business Tourism Awards.
Catering for over 500 people, the President's Ball transformed Magna into 'Around the World in 80 Days', delighting all those who attended in May 2008.
Visitors were amazed by the set up at Magna and a fantastic time was had by all. Phileas Fogg, the intrepid explorer was in attendance and guests walked through a London street scene in the Red Hall, where they were surrounded by gaslights, market barrows, shoe polishers and dance actors selling flags and flowers.
Walking down the corridor to the Big Hall was themed as a train journey, arriving at reception drinks in the Moulin Rouge in Paris, where dancers greeted the guests.
Magna's award-winning Executive Head Chef, Stephen Harrison, created a themed meal especially for the evening which included dishes from France, India, America and England.
Rob Hannon, Rotherham Chamber President, said: "We are very proud that the President's Ball has been recognised as one of the top events in the region, and the nomination highlights the superb working relationship our events team has with Magna in putting the event together.
"We are looking forward to the challenge of ensuring the President's Ball which will take place in May this year matches the high standard of the 2008 event. The fact that the ball is a charity event further establishes it as one of the jewels in our events programme."
Lee Wilkinson, Events Manager at Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce said: "Magna as a venue is superb and our Presidents Ball is always a spectacular occasion. This is a tribute to Magna and in particular their staff who are always friendly, hard working and willing to lend a hand in any way they can to make sure the event runs as smoothly as possible. Being nominated for this award is a great testament to everyone at Magna and the Chamber involved in planning the event."
Magna's Managing Director Matthew Beck said of the nomination: "This tops off a fantastic year for Magna and builds on the award for Large Venue of the Year which we won at the Business Tourism Awards last year."
This year's President's Ball will take place at Magna on Saturday 16 May and will be themed around the centenary of the Chamber of Commerce in Rotherham.
